We moved to the German-Austrian border, in Passau, to start our bicycle trip along the Austrian Danube, until we reached the country's capital, Vienna. We enjoy such interesting places as the Schlögen meander, the Melk abbey or the Mauthausen camp.
First day of travel, on the way towards Austria. We make rest stops in the area of the Castle of Salses, next to the aqueduct of Saint-Nazaire-en-Royans and walk through the historic center of Annecy, before entering Switzerland.
We cross Switzerland and make a long stop to walk through the historic center of Bern, which highlights the Clock Tower (Zytglogge), the beautiful fountains, the town hall or the portico of the cathedral.
In the morning we visit the center of Passau, which highlights the medieval streets, the town hall, the market square and the cathedral. After lunch we start our bicycle tour along the Danube green route.
We started the day walking up to the viewpoint of Schlögen. The path, though steep, is very nice as it runs through the forest between trees and ferns. Finally we reached the viewpoint and the effort rewards us with wonderful views.
The stretch from Aschach to Linz is perhaps the least interesting. Once we are in the car, we visit the Grottenbahn children's attraction, which consists of a dragon train that travels through the imaginary world of the land of the dwarves. Afternoon walk in Linz.
The Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp was a group of Nazi concentration camps located around the towns of Mauthausen and Sankt Georgen an der Gusen (Gusen). Afternoon swim in Badesee Steyregg.
We continue the bicycle trip through the Celtic town of Mitterkirchen, the Cistercian abbey of Baumgartenberg and the castle of Klam, up to the Stadtplatz in Grein, where the Stadttheather is located, a small theater of 167 seats built in 1791.
After a walk through the old town of Enns, we return to our bike route from Grein to Melk, where in addition to its streets, stands out the Benedictine abbey dominates the Danube from the top of a rocky cliff.
We skipped a stretch of bicycle and made the one that goes from Tulln to Vienna. After strolling down the street from the opera to St. Stephen's Cathedral, we spent the afternoon at the Prater amusement park.
On this day we rest of bicycle. In the morning we visit the Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the Habsburgs, located on the outskirts of Vienna, and in the afternoon we visit the historic center of the Austrian capital.
We begin the return home by cycling the stretch that we had skipped in previous days from Krems to Melk. This section is one of the most beautiful of the trip because the road advances through the vineyards of the Wachau region.
We dedicate the day to visit Munich, starting with the imposing BMW Welt building, eating at the historic Hofbräuhaus am Platzl brewery, and visiting the most interesting places such as the New Town Hall located on the Marienplatz.
After so many days of traveling by car and bicycle we saved the penultimate day of travel to enjoy in an amusement park. The Legoland park in Germany, opened in 2002, is located in the town of Günzburg.
The Rhine Falls (Rheinfall) are the biggest waterfall in central Europe and are located on the High Rhine, between the villages of Neuhausen am Rheinfall and Laufen-Uhwiesen/Dachsen, next to the town of Schaffhausen.
